Blocked gutters are one of the most common — and most preventable — causes of damp, render staining and fascia damage on UK homes. By the time water is visibly overflowing during heavy rain, the problem has usually been building for a couple of autumns and the cost of fixing the symptoms (damp internal walls, rotten fascia, stained render) is many times the cost of clearing the gutter.

We clear gutters from the ground with a high-reach vacuum system, send a camera up the pole so you can see what's coming out before, during and after, and supply photos with every job. No ladders against your facia, no debris dropped over the garden.

01

How the vacuum system works

We use a Skyvac or equivalent high-reach vacuum on carbon-fibre poles up to about 12 metres. Debris is pulled straight down the pole into a sealed waste drum, with a camera on the end of the pole giving us a live view of what we're doing. You can see exactly what's in your gutters before we start — usually a mix of moss, leaves, roof grit and roofing nails — and what's left when we finish.

Downpipes are tested by flushing water through. If anything is partially blocked further down the pipe, we'll flag it before we leave so you can decide whether to clear it that visit or book a return.

02

When to clear gutters

For most properties, once a year is enough — typically late autumn after the leaves have come down. Properties with overhanging trees, conifers or sycamores nearby need clearing twice a year. Properties on Property Care Plans get gutter clearance scheduled automatically so it doesn't get forgotten.

Don't wait for visible overflow. By the time water is pouring over the edge during rain, debris has already been sitting in the gutter long enough to damage the seals and the fascia behind it.

03

Inspection and repair

While we're up there, we keep an eye out for the things that always go wrong — sagging brackets, perished seals at the joints, missing end caps, blocked downpipe outlets, displaced rainwater heads. Anything we spot, we'll photograph and send to you with a note on whether it needs a same-day fix, a return visit, or just keeping an eye on. We don't upsell repairs that aren't needed.

04

What affects the price

Gutter cleaning is priced on the total run of gutter in metres, the working height, the access around the property, and how heavily blocked things are. A standard semi-detached house is typically £75–£120 for a complete clear. Larger detached properties, three-storey town houses and properties with restricted access cost more.

Local coverage

Autumn in Plymouth, Plympton, Plymstock and the wooded South Hams villages will fill a gutter quickly — limes, sycamores and conifers shed heavily from late September. Out towards Tavistock, Yelverton, Ivybridge and the Cornish side of the Tamar around Saltash, Callington and Liskeard, we see a lot of moss runoff from the prevailing damp winds as well as leaves. We cover Plymouth, Plymstock, Plympton, Ivybridge, Tavistock, Yelverton, Saltash, Callington, Liskeard and Launceston, and travel across the South Hams, West Devon and the wider Devon and Cornwall border country.
